Weather
McKenzie Families, With the possibility of winter weather in the forecast, here are a few reminders about how families can expect to receive information. Safety is our top priority. The most important aspect of the decision to delay or close school is the safety of our students and staff. Bus drivers and transportation personnel drive the bus routes whenever there is a weather problem to determine safety. They then make a recommendation to the superintendent. A decision will be made by 6:00 AM on whether to operate, delay the start, or close the school. Make sure to be signed up for our text alerts. In the event of school closures or delays due to inclement weather, families will be alerted via text message, email, and/or voice message through our system. District website and social media sites will also be updated with any closure or delay information. Click out our website here for more information on delayed start, cancelation, and snow routes. Please remember to dress your child warmly on cold days. Hats, gloves, and boots are required for students who want to play outside at recess, the more waterproof the better. Also, it never hurts to have an extra change of clothes in their backpack at this time of the year. Thanks! Lane Tompkins McKenzie Superintendent

We are delighted to present another milestone in our mission of "Constructing a Brighter Future.”  Following the successful construction of a shelter for the unhoused last year, we are thrilled to announce the completion of yet another one, recently installed at Square One Villages.  This CTE project has been an invaluable opportunity for our students, allowing them to gain real-world experience while making a meaningful impact on our community. CTE instructor, Seth O’Hare says, “I am grateful for this opportunity, allowing our students to gain real skills while benefiting our community is a win-win for all involved.” 2024 is already off to a fantastic start!

What an amazing journey it has been!  We recently told you how our students were watching the growth of Salmon. They recently released their baby salmon into the stream near our school. It was a day filled with fun, excitement, and a little emotional as we watched these little ones venture into their new home. From the beginning, we've been captivated by the transformation of these tiny fish from eggs to hatchlings. Watching their yolk sacs slowly shrink as they grew was truly a remarkable experience. Did you know that these young salmon, now called fry, carry a food supply (a sac of egg yolk) attached to their bellies? They will leave the protection of the gravel once that yolk is used up, which can take 12 weeks or more. Mrs. Ill says being a part of this process has been incredibly rewarding and humbling. Seeing how our kiddos interacted with the growing salmon and faced the challenges along the way was truly heartwarming.
