Looking to boost our school community? Consider volunteering at McKenzie! From classroom support to transportation, serving as event staff, or coaching K-5 students, there’s a place for you. For more information, visit the front office for a volunteer packet or check out our website. Background checks are required for new volunteers. Returners must sign a yearly agreement but don't need to fill out a packet. If you are a new volunteer, packets take six weeks to process. Get one in soon so you can inspire our next generation of Eagles to soar!

Check out this piece from KEZI about the Ore Fire and how the Blue River community is supporting those fighting fires. We are grateful McKenzie can provide a home base for firefighters at this time as they continue to keep us safe! https://www.kezi.com/news/ore-fire-challenging-fire-crews-with-steep-terrain-and-fire-fuels/article_eee2b032-4894-11ef-a18e-43eff1a2d04e.html

We know many of you are worried about the wildfires in our area. McKenzie has always opened its doors to those in need. We are currently a host to the Northwest Incident Management Team 10's Incident Command as they coordinate fire suppression activities. We are grateful for firefighters, both local and from afar, who always step up to keep our community safe. While fire operations are on campus, our summer food program will be suspended. Leave a note of thanks to our firefighters in the captions below!

**Wildfire Mental Health Support Available** McKenzie Families, I hope you’re enjoying your summer! We’re reaching out with an update as we face another wildfire situation. The Ore Fire is burning near USFS Road 15 above Blue River Reservoir. We are grateful for the fire personnel who are working to fight the fire and keep our community safe. While the fire is some distance from most of our river communities, the smoke and fire can cause strong feelings of anxiety. If you, your student, or anyone in our community is struggling with anxiety because of the fire in our area and may benefit from support, please don’t hesitate to contact Niki Jones at niki.jones@mckenziesd.org or 541-822-3338. We are here to connect you with the support you need. We are working hard over the summer to welcome your students back this fall. Mark your calendars for registration on August 12th and 13th from 9 am to 3 pm and the first day of school, September 3rd. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
