We know many of you are worried about the wildfires in our area. McKenzie has always opened its doors to those in need. We are currently a host to the Northwest Incident Management Team 10's Incident Command as they coordinate fire suppression activities. We are grateful for firefighters, both local and from afar, who always step up to keep our community safe. While fire operations are on campus, our summer food program will be suspended. **Wildfire Mental Health Support Available** McKenzie Families, I hope you’re enjoying your summer! We’re reaching out with an update as we face another wildfire situation. The Ore Fire is burning near USFS Road 15 above Blue River Reservoir. We are grateful for the fire personnel who are working to fight the fire and keep our community safe. While the fire is some distance from most of our river communities, the smoke and fire can cause strong feelings of anxiety. If you, your student, or anyone in our community is struggling with anxiety because of the fire in our area and may benefit from support, please don’t hesitate to contact Niki Jones at niki.jones@mckenziesd.org or 541-822-3338. We are here to connect you with the support you need. We are working hard over the summer to welcome your students back this fall. Make a difference in your community and be a school bus driver for McKenzie School District. Take the wheel of a rewarding career, or supplement your income with part-time work. Bus drivers work approximately 16 hours per week, with possible additional after-school activity bus hours. Qualified candidates may also be able to gain additional hours working on campus in other roles supporting our students. Pay starts at $22.54 per hour, depending on experience. Plus, for a limited time, new bus drivers can earn up to $1,200 in bonuses. Training is provided by the district. We are excited for community partner Homes For Good as they anticipate new modular homes arriving at Lazy Days soon. Do you have a 3rd-12th grade Eagle interested in diving into the world of sports? Look into our McKenzie Sports Clinic! Join us August 19th-22nd from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., where students will learn the fundamentals of football, basketball, and softball. Students will also run through drills, scrimmage, and apply what they have learned. Transportation from home to school will be provided daily, and breakfast and lunch will also be served. Summer in Oregon just got more awesome thanks to Summer EBT! Summer EBT’s mission is to help get healthy meals to kids throughout the summer break from school. Eligible school-aged children will each get $120 for groceries this summer, and the program will renew each year. If your household has an EBT card (Oregon Trail Card), your funds will be added to that card this summer. Otherwise, you’ll get a new card in the mail after you’ve been determined eligible. Join us July 8th-11th from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., where students will use their imagination and quick thinking to create characters and react to the fantasy world around them! Students will also have the opportunity to learn the basics of Chess and have time to play other board games, too—no experience necessary! Transportation from home to school will be provided daily, and breakfast and lunch will also be served. Senior Spotlight! Meet Jane Dellinger! While at McKenzie, Jane played basketball and golf and participated in track and field. She also served as the Associated Student Body Vice President (ASB). Her favorite memory from her time at McKenzie was in Mr. Day’s after-school fly-tying club in 8th grade. There, she learned about fly fishing, different fly patterns, and the life cycles of various fly species. After graduation, Jane will attend Oregon State University to study natural resources and later attend pilot school. She advises incoming students to develop close relationships with their peers and teachers and “Step out of your comfort zone, whether in sports, academically, or socially. My senior year has been full of fun things I never thought I would have done my freshman year of high school.” Congratulations, Jane!

As we reach the end of another incredible school year, we want to thank our Eagles and their families for their hard work and dedication in the classroom! The Senior Walk was a powerful reminder that the McKenzie River community is filled with support, enthusiasm, and encouragement for our students in every grade and our school at large! We hope this summer brings time spent with friends and loved ones and the chance to soak up the sunshine. We will see you in the fall! Go Eagles! 💚💛

We are excited to announce that our Class of 2024 Eagles are ready to spread their wings and fly! The McKenzie River community could not be prouder of our graduates, and we cannot wait to see all they will accomplish as they step out into the world. Congratulations graduates!

Did you know that according to Oregon State University, “Students’ motivation and interest in learning is increased because of outdoor school?” This Classroom Curiosity is dedicated to our fifth graders who embarked on an exciting journey to the Outdoor School Adventure. Bringing the classroom to the outdoors was academically and socially rewarding for our students, and we are so proud of them for stepping out of their comfort zones and into the forest!
