McKenzie 9-12 Academic Support Program

The McKenzie Summer Academic Support Grant Program offerings for the Summer of 2021 will center around service to our community while learning and earning credit. We envision students working to fulfill our school vision of a thriving community valuing and engaging all members in the work of solving the challenges of tomorrow. The Holiday Farm Fire last September coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic has made service and engagement in solving our community’s challenges more relevant and vital to student and community success. Students will be able to give back this summer in the following areas:

Service Through Caring for Community Youth

This is a full day program 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Students will serve the community by providing structured childcare for our community's youth following school enrichment programs. Students who provide this service will work with Mrs. Jodi Erdahl, spending mornings planning and preparing for the afternoon’s care programming. Students will earn elective credit while also being paid for providing post enrichment program care for elementary students.

Service Through Recreation

8:00 am - 12:30 pm

Students will serve the community by supporting physical recreation activities during youth Summer Enrichment programming. Students who provide this service will work with Mr. Joshua Henley and Mr. Fred Heins to provide a number of physical recreation activities. Activities may include sports skill camps such as basketball, volleyball, football and golf. Other activities may include hiking or other outdoor recreation. Students will earn PE credit while also being paid for supporting enrichment activities.

Service Through Technology Education

8:00 am - 12:30 pm

Students will serve the community by supporting computer science educational activities during the youth Summer Enrichment programming. Students who provide this service will work with Mr. Corey Culp to provide coding and robotics education opportunities for students in grades K-8. Students will earn Computer Science credit while also being paid for supporting enrichment activities.

Service Through Music Education

8:00 am - 12:30 pm

Students will serve the community by supporting music educational activities during the youth Summer Enrichment programming. Students who provide this service will work with Mrs. Jamie Sieminski to provide educational music activities for students in grades K-8. Students will earn music credit while also being paid for supporting enrichment activities.

Service Through Restoration

This is a full day program 8am - 4:30pm

Students will serve the community by working with our community partner, the McKenzie Watershed Council, to help conduct Post Fire Burn Assessments. Students will also work to restore access to area outdoor recreation resources. Students who provide this service will work with Mr. Cliff Richardson and Ms. Jaylee Jordan as well as community partners Justin Demeter of the McKenzie Watershed Council. Students will earn science credit while also being paid for providing restoration support.

Students will need to complete the following forms so they can earn while they learn.

Students will also need to provide a copy of the following documents:

  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate or Drivers License or State ID or Passport
