It was great to see all of the students and the staff once again roaming the school hallways, as we start a brand new year. The enthusiasm and the upbeat attitude on the part of all involved is truly a joy to watch.

The groundskeeper and custodians did their usual outstanding job in making sure that the grounds were manicured and presentable and the interior of the buildings were clean and inviting. All of this with just a handful of competent and caring staff using a lot of elbow grease.  Kudos to all of those involved in the preparation for opening day!!

A shout out also goes to all of you parents and guardians who worked so hard to see that your children made it out of the door in time to catch a bus or to load up in the car and drive to school. It is always great to have all of the students to school on time. We do not take for granted that it is always an easy task.

I also want to re-enforce the fact that student success is directly related to being at school every day and on time. Research has shown that those who read poorly by the end of the third grade have a greater likelihood of not graduating from high school. Poor reading and writing is also directly related to the number of absences experienced by the child. I am sure that all of us as parents want the best possible education for our children. That starts with us as individual parents making sure that we do everything in our power to get our children to school each and every day.

Thank you for all that you do to support us in educating your children here at the McKenzie School District.

Jim Thomas, Superintendent
