McKenzie School District

Dear McKenzie River Community School Supporters,

While we are excited to open our doors on Monday, August 27 for the All Staff In Service Week, and for all Students on Tuesday, September 4, we recognize that we are again, unfortunately, experiencing the effects of a local wild fire, the Terwilliger Fire.

We want everyone in the community to know that we are communicating and collaborating with officials and monitoring conditions locally at the school, and we will continue to communicate any changes in schedule with all of you.  In addition to our own Air Quality Monitoring equipment, LRAPA has installed an Air Quality Index Monitor at the District Office which gives us access to real time data.

The District is using portable air purifiers as well as charcoal filters in the HVAC systems in order to do the best we can to clean the air inside the buildings, and are monitoring conditions regularly.   While our buildings are beautiful and historic, they are older and it is impossible to keep all of the smoke out.  We will let you know if the indoor air quality indices exceed public health safety standards, and will follow our Inclement Weather notification policies should we need to make any decisions regarding the schedule.

There will be a Community Meeting held by the Southwest Incident Management Team #3 in the Old Gym at 7:30pm on Friday, August 24, 2018.  You are encouraged to attend if you are seeking more information about the Terwilliger Fire.
